Composed of three dialogue-free short films—Romu-Mattila and a Beautiful Woman (2012), The Moonshiners (2017), and A Planet Far Away (2023)—the trilogy celebrates physical comedy, visual storytelling, and the quiet poetry of marginal lives. Each segment offers a distinct narrative tone: a melancholic widower shedding his possessions, two bootleggers and their loyal pig evading the law, and a lighthouse keeper embarking on a surreal space-bound journey. Shot in black and white and scored with live music and ambient sound, Kuosmanen’s trilogy revives the spirit of silent film with contemporary wit and handmade charm. Premiered at the 60th Chicago International Film Festival and produced by Aamu Film Company, Silent Trilogy is a cinematic time capsule—playful, poignant, and rich in pathos.
